Approached planning layout initially by moving the different location names around on the layout and trying to find something that worked. I realised pretty quickly that this was the wrong approach. To curate this well I have to be lead by the content itself. Going through this and selecting key pieces of information for the main timeline will begin as the basis of the structure.
Key information to hold the narrative.
I wanted to organise this in the order that it would be posted. I began thinking of opening and closing using an archive photograph, in a way that scrolling through is akin to walk in and out of the history of each place as well as on the greater timeline. I felt that leading and closing images from archive material would also contextualise my present day photography well.
I realised there is no obvious written explanation to the subject matter and to the context in the presentation of the photographs. Initially I was thinking of it as with a print context, however with further work I realised the obvious, I could use Instagrams description feature to provide a written context.
I've decided to focus on developing for instagram as this fits within the given time constraints due to the covid 19 project change.
Experiments with placing on main timeline
After numerous experiments with the layout of the photography I settled on this as the final timeline. Developing over a large photoshop file and cropping to individual images so as to keep continuity on the Instagram timeline. I changed the "Proclamation of the Langholm Town Fair" to the original wording so that when swiping it changes to the quote from the walk. I also removed the final image as I wanted to include this with the images of the "Crying of the Fair" at the Castle Craigs.
Multi add layouts.
Creating the multi add layouts, I built from the basic grid structure which I had created for the main timeline. Using solo slides I extended them in photoshop, which enabled me to include the photographs that overlap images and extend on this separately of the main timeline.
I'm really pleased with the ways these tied together and communicated more on each place rather than the theme as a whole. I think this enables more of the personal memories and reflections to come through in the images. It gives the different themes space to establish themselves.
